Apple just confirmed pricing and availability for the new iPhone 5. Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 start Sept. 14 with contract pricing at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB when you get contracted services from AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

Apple stated that all models will ship on Sept. 21  to the following countries: the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.  Other countries will also be getting the iPhone 5 starting on September 28.  Apple will ship iPhone 5 to about 100 countries, and 240 carriers by the end of the year.

As for the 8GB iPhone 4, it will become free while the 16GB iPhone 4S will remain available for $99.

Schiller says it’s the world’s thinnest. 112 grams — 20% lighter than 4S. “The hardware and software engineering that has gone into this product is the most challenging.” said Schiller.

“I don’t know what these other tablets are doing. They must be in warehouses and store shelves, or maybe someone’s bottom drawer” says Cook (#CNETLIVE)

Since the iPhone 5 is thinner.  They have replaced the 30-pin connector with the new “Lighting” connector.  No more fumbling with trying to get your charger plugged in correctly, the Lighting connector works regardless of the direction you plug it in. The connection is also said to be much more durable.

Apple is changing the game by using a new Nano-Sim Card.  Current Micro-Sims will not be interchangeable with the iPhone 5.  There are already Sim card cutters being used to take a normal Sim and make it into a Micro-Sim.  We suspect that Nano-Sim card adapters and cutters will be available soon.

New image signal processor in the A6 chip, does spatial noise reduction, with a “smart filter” that produces better low-light performance and captures photos faster.

The iPhone 5 will have a decent battery life considering the size of the screen.

Schiller says the battery life is now 8 hrs 3G talk time, 3G browsing. 8hrs LTE browsing, 10 hrs Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hrs video, 40 hours Music. 225 hrs of standby.
