My phone is freezing, running slow, repair did not work, spazzing out! What can I do?

Soft Reset

Performing a soft reset can resolve issues like continuous resetting/rebooting, crashing, freezing, can’t make or receive calls, and other general software related problems. This process is similar to rebooting a computer after it freezes up. Phones are small computers after all.

This should not erase your data, but it is always a good idea to do a backup. With your device turned on…

  1. Press and hold Power Button.
  2. Press and hold the Home Button.
  3. Your device will now shut down and reboot.

Hard Reset

A hard reset can resolve issue like: blank or frozen screen, crashing apps, touch screen problems, no audio, random noises, no call functionality or sync errors.

**This process will erase all your data**, and erase any accounts linked to your device as well.

  1. Connect your device to a computer that has iTunes.
  2. Make sure your device is selected from the left menu in iTunes.
iTunes iPhone restore
  1. Click Restore.
  2. If iTunes asks you to back up your data, Click Yes.
  3. Click Restore.
  4. iTunes will prepare and restore your device. Do not unplug your device at this time!
  5. When finished, iTunes will ask if you would like to restore your data. Choose at your desire.

Apple iPhone 5 Screws (Replacement Set for 5, 5C and 5S) Troubleshooting:

We have what you need in our Apple iPhone 5 Screws (Replacement Set for 5, 5C and 5S). This is a small set of screws that come in various sizes, so you should be able to replace any stripped or missing screw in your device. This bag of screws does not contain the 2 bottom Pentalobe screws on your device.

  1. If this set of screws does not contain a specific screw you are looking for, you may be able to make one of these screws work any way. The bottom 2 pentalobe screws are often lost due to damage, or during repair. There should be a couple of phillips screws in this set you can make work instead.
  2. If you are fighting a stripped screw, take a look at our YouTube video for a helpful trick on getting bad screws to come out.
  3. If you still cannot remove the screw using this trick, you may need to send in your phone to a specialist. You can always Mail in Your Device: our certified technicians will be happy to diagnose or repair your device.

Apple iPhone 5C and 5S Battery Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5C and 5S Battery is your main, mobile power source for your device. The iPhone battery is located under your main screen. If your uncertain if your issue is with your battery, plug your device directly into your computer. If everything works while plugged into your PC, but your device turns off right after you unplug it, then you need a new battery. If your device has to be recharged more often then usual, or will not charge at all, then this is the part you need.

  1. Try a different power cable on your device. You may have a USB cable that has gone bad at the same time as your battery. This is a fairly common occurrence. If this does not work…
  2. Remove your battery, and plug your iPhone straight into your computer. If your device does not power on at all, then you may have a bad charge port. Try replacing the charge port flex cable. If a new port does not resolve the issue…
  3. Reattempt the repair from the beginning. Double check all your connections during the installation to see if something may have come loose or was damaged during the original repair. If this still does not resolve the issue…
  4. You may have a defective or broken battery.

Apple iPhone 5S Back Camera Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Back Camera is your default camera located on the back of your device under the main screen. If you are experiencing problems such as a fuzzy image or lines through your pictures, you may need to replace your lens instead of your camera. If your pictures look distorted while viewing on your device, but after sending them through an email or download are clear, your screen has gone bad not the camera. If you are having any other problem with your camera, then this is the part you need.

  1. If your device is not acknowledging your new camera (your app is blank), you will want to try a soft reset before you reopen your device. A soft reset will clear your devices’ cache memory for your old camera, and recalibrate to allow your new camera to work.
  2. Also, check the alignment of your camera. If your camera is off-center, then your back housing will block your camera, and give the impression of your camera not working.
  3. If your pictures look fuzzy, there may be a protective film over the new camera. Open your device again, and remove this film. With your device open, double-check your camera and camera lens for any sign of debris or scratches. These types of scuffs and dirt can also blur your camera.
  4. If your pictures look distorted while viewing on your device, but after downloading them to your computer they are clear, then your LCD screen has gone bad, not the camera. You will need to replace your LCD to resolve this problem.
  5. If after this troubleshooting your camera still will not work, you may have a defective or broken camera.

Apple iPhone 5S Buttons (Set of Mute, Power, Volume) Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Buttons (Set of Mute, Power, Volume) is a set of 3 separate parts. These parts independently control your volume rocker, mute or vibrate switch, and the lock or power button. Normally, issues with these parts are due to broken interior flex cables that can also be replaced. These external buttons should only need replacement if the original part has been lost due to damage.

  1. Reattempt the repair from the beginning. Double check all the flex cables connected to these external buttons to make certain they were not damaged during the initial fall of your device, or during installation.
  2. If all the cables look intact make certain all your cables fit properly. If everything fits, your cables look intact, but your device still will not function properly, this is a sign of something worse then a simply cosmetic issue. We suggest mailing in your device for diagnostic testing.
  3. If your buttons won’t fit then you have a defective button set.

Apple iPhone 5S Charge Port Flex Cable (Includes Headphone and Mic) Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Charge Port Flex Cable (Includes Headphone and Mic) is composed of three separate parts located at the bottom of your device under the screen. In addition to your main charging dock, this cable also controls your head phone jack and your main microphone. This flex cable also contains a chip that allows your USB cables to sync on your device. If you are getting error messages when you try to connect to iTunes, or charge your device, then you may need to replace this cable as well.

  1. Start with checking all three parts of this flex cable. If you are experiencing issues or non-functioning of only one of these three components, then you may simply have a bad flex cable.
  2. If your device will not power on after repair, you may have a bad battery in addition to a defective charge port. Remove the battery and see if you can plug straight into a charger to get life. If you do, then you need a new battery.
  3. If all three parts don’t work, reattempt the repair from scratch. After removing the good part, check and see if your original cable is still functioning as it was prior to the repair. If neither cable will work now, we suggest contacting a member of our support team for further information.
  4. If none of the troubleshooting works, you may have a defective or broken part.

Apple iPhone 5S Ear Speaker Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Ear Speaker is your main hearing piece when using your device in normal phone mode. The ear speaker is not the same as your external speakers for playing music. The ear speaker also does not control the sound when using your phone in speaker phone mode. If you place your phone to your ear to answer a call, and you have no sound, then this is the part you need.

  1. Make sure your ear speaker is fully covered by the protective plate on your iPhone 5S. The ear speaker on this phone only fully functions once this shield is on. This shield aids to direct the sound outward to your ear instead of inward at the internal components of your device (they don’t listen well anyway). If this piece is missing, or nor on correctly, you will need to open your device, and tack it down before your new ear speaker will work again.
  2. Check the springs (the copper prongs) on your ear speaker. They are designed to maintain a constant connection on your device, and if one of these prongs is not long enough, you will need to stretch it back into place before your new speaker will work.
  3. If your hear a buzzing noise while taking a call, your new speaker simply is not tight in its fitting. Open your device, make certain your ear speaker is aligned correct, and tighten all the screws that hold this part in place. Your speaker now should work normally.
  4. If your ear speaker is tight, all the prongs are touching, and the cover plate intact, then you may have a defective or broken part.

Apple iPhone 5S Front Camera and Proximity Sensor Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Front Camera and Proximity Sensor is composed of 2 different parts. The proximity sensor is soldered to the front camera, and the 2 parts cannot be replaced independently. If you are having issues with blurry pictures, you may have a scratch on your fron screen, and may not need to replace the front camera. If your screen will not turn off when you place the phone against your face, then you need to replace the proximity sensor using this complete part.

  1. If your new part has reversed the calibration of your proximity sensor (screen turns on when placed to your ear), then it is usually a simply matter of recalibrating your device. Perform a soft reset on your device, and this should fix the problem.
  2. The same is true if your front camera will not work, but your proximity sensor will. If your app is not working at all, then again, a soft reset should fix the issue. If the app is working, but there is no image, check the alignment of your camera. If your camera is off-center, then the frame will block your camera, and give the impression of your camera not working.
  5. If after this troubleshooting, your part still will not work, you may have a defective or broken part.

Apple iPhone 5S Home Button Flex Cable Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Home Button Flex Cable controls your main click feature when attempting to go to your main “home” page. This part is only the internal flex cable, and does not have any control over the finger print reader. If you have all ready activated the finger print scanner on your device, you will need to remove this feature before replacing this flex cable. Once replaced, your finger print feature will not be able to be activated again. If you click your home button, and nothing happens, then this is the part you need.

  1. If you all ready activated your finger print reader feature on your device, this new flex cable will not fix your phone. Each home button reader is specifically calibrated to your device. Your best solution will be to undo your repair, place your old flex cable back in your device, and deactivate the finger print feature before reattempting this repair.
  2. If your new home button will not work, reattempt the repair from the beginning. Make sure the plug side of this cable is fully attached. It will sometimes come loose when placing your screen back down, and this is block your home button from working.
  3. Double check your new cable for any signs of crimps (folding) or rips. This cable can easily be severed during repair. Also, any crimps will create fractures in the thin metal inside the cable. Once this metal is cracked (folded) power will no longer flow through the cable.
  4. If none of the troubleshooting works, then you may have a defective or damaged part.

Apple iPhone 5S Power Button Flex Cable (Includes Mute and Volume) Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Power Button Flex Cable (Includes Mute and Volume) controls most of the primary functions of our iPhone 5S. This cable is located at the very back of your device under all the other components, and then laces through to the front of your device. If you are having issues with any of these three parts: power button, mute switch, or volume keys, then this entire cable will need to be replaced.

  1. If only one part is not working, one of the connection points may simply have some loose while sealing up your device. Start with reattempting the repair from the beginning, and see if any of the contact points are loose.
  2. If none of the contact points are loose, but you still don’t have full functionality, double check your power cable for any signs of crimps or rips. Crimps (or excessive folding) can cause a break in the metal that is inside the flex cable. If this metal is folded too much, then your device will not be able to get power or any other signal through this part.
  3. If none of the troubleshooting works, then you may have a defective or broken part.

Apple iPhone 5S Screen Replacement (Digitizer and LCD) Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Screen Replacement (Digitizer and LCD) controls both your touch function and your main image display. If your top glass is broken, your touch function is unresponsive, or you have no image display, then this is the part you need. This screen comes with both your top digitizer and your lower LCD fused together for easy assembly. This version of the iPhone 5S screen does not include any additional components such as home button assembly, front camera or ear speaker.

  1. If you have an all white or all black display, start by performing a soft reset on your device. Blank and white screens are usually a sign of the internal software not wanting accept the new parts. A soft reset will clear your device of any temporary data that is blocking your new part from working.
  2. Check to see if your screen’s back light is on. If there is no back light in addition to no display, your new LCD is not plugged in correctly. Reattempt the repair, and make certain your new part is fully installed.
  3. If your digitizer will not respond to touch at all, reattempt the repair, and make certain your cable was not crimped (folded too much). Crimping causes micro fractures in the thin metal inside a flex cable. Once this metal is cracked, power and other impulses cannot flow through the device.
  4. If only a select grid of icons will not work such as the top third, or left side, you may have a cable that is miss aligned. Open your device, and make certain all the connectors on the flex cable match up. If this plug is off center, you will see problems such as this called “blocking”. Blocking can also happen if either your digitizer cable, or your motherboard plug have missing or bent pins. These pins will need to be put back in place before your device will work again.
  5. If you see blotches on your display, this is a sign that too much pressure has been applied to the LCD at some time. Open your device again, and make certain there is no residual glass from your original broken screen. After clearing your screen, disable your phones “Sleep mode”, and leave your device on a charger for 24 hours. The heat from a constant charge can cause the crystals inside your device to move back into place.
  6. If the troubleshooting does not work, or if your screen has lines down your display, then you may have a defective or broken part.

Apple iPhone 5S SIM Card Tray Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S SIM Card Tray is an easy replacement if you have a SIM Card Removal Tool. We include both with your order of this part! Our SIM trays do not include any serial numbers like the original tray does. Your IMEI number can always be found under your settings section of your iPhone 5S.

  1. If your device will not connect to your service provider, your SIM Card may have worn out, or become demagnetized. Contact your service provider, and get a new SIM Card to see if this will fix the problem. You should not need to change phone numbers to get a new SIM card.
  2. If a new SIM card does not fix the problem, the your SIM card reader may be damaged. This part is attached to your motherboard on the iPhone 5. If this part is not working, then it is highly unlikely it can be repaired. Your best solution will be to get a new device.
  3. If none of the troubleshooting works, then you may have a damaged or defective part.

Apple iPhone 5S Speaker Dock Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Speaker Dock is your main external audio control on your device. This part operates your external sounds such as ringtones and music. The ringer speaker also operates your devices audio when placing a call using the loud speaker feature. This part does not control your audio when placing your phone to your ear. Your ringer speaker can normally be found toward the lower part of your device underneath the main screen.

  1. If your new speaker will not work at all, reattempt the repair from the beginning. On the back of the speaker, there are 2 prongs that make a connection inside your device. If even one of these 2 prongs is not lined up for a full connection, then the entire speaker will not work. This also applies if you are hearing a buzzing sound, or just have a very faint sound as well.
  2. While your double checking the 2 prongs on the speaker, also check that your motherboard has not lost it’s contact points. If either of these 2 points came loose during the same event that lead to your speaker needing replacement, then no speaker will fix this problem.
  3. Also check that your speaker still has a magnetic charge. You can easily do this by placing something on top of the metal area of the new speaker (something metal). If there is no magnetic response, then your new speaker lost it’s charge in transit, and will not work.
  4. If none of the troubleshooting works, then you may have a damaged or defective part.

Apple iPhone 5S Vibrator Flex Cable Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S Vibrator Flex Cable controls your main shake function when receiving phone calls, text messages, or playing games. Unlike other vibrators, the iPhone 5S vibrator is attached to a flex cable that plugs into your main motherboard. No soldering is required. This part is found in the upper left hand corner of your device.

  1. If the new vibrator is not working at all, open your device, and reattempt the repair. Most vibrators have only 2 prongs to make a connection. If these prongs are not aligned correctly, then your new part will not work. In addition, make certain your new part is fully plugged into the main board.
  2. If your new vibrator is not as strong as it should be, or your hear a buzzing instead of feeling a buzzing, your new vibrator is likely loose inside your device. Open your device, and make certain it is snug in it’s fitting. If needed, use some type of adhesive to hold it in place.
  3. If none of the troubleshooting works, then you may have a defective or damaged part.

Apple iPhone 5S WiFi Antenna Flex Cable Troubleshooting:

The Apple iPhone 5S WiFi Antenna Flex Cable is your main internet signal receiver on your device. This part is located under your main screen, back camera, and a few protective shields on the iPhone 5S. If you are experiencing problems connecting to a WiFi signal, or have a weak wireless signal, then this is the part you need. The WiFi antenna does not control your connection to your cellular network. If you are having network access issues, take your device to your phone service provider for more information.

  1. If you are unable to receive any signal at all, try restoring your device back to factory default settings. Apple devices tend to remember the last part that was installed, and getting a new part to work is simply a matter of recalibrating the device.
  2. If you have a weak signal, this is usually due to a loose screw on your device. Open your device again, and make certain every screw is tight. Most of the screws in this device are specifically placed to help boost your reception of both wireless and cellular signals. One loose screw can make for a weak connection.
  3. If none of these troubleshooting steps work, you may have a defective or broken part.

  1. Hey guys, I recently replaced my screen and now my LED light and Camera will not come on. I click the camera app and it just restarts. The LED from the bottom up-swipe screen is faded grey, and will not allow me to click on it as if it is already in use.

    1. Thanks Garrett Parker,

Start with a soft reset on your device (instructions can be found in the above blog). Sometimes the recent memory cache just needs to be cleared in order for your device to work normally after repair. Should the soft reset not work, open your device and double check all your connections. If the camera has come unplugged, this type of problem will happen.

Should neither of these steps work, we suggest contacting a technician for further troubleshooting steps as there may be something worse going on with your device. You can contact us by phone at: 1.855.234.9483.

  2. Hey Guys,

This week I replaced my 5S front (LCD all in one). Now, I am experiencing random periods, 5-10 seconds, in which my screen doesn't respond to touch. I have to wait until it reacts again. I am sure it is not my phone freezing, as pressing the home or power button still does it's work.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

    1. Thanks Kevin,

As the problem comes and goes, it still could be a software issue. The power and home button components feed into different sections of your device's motherboard, and so does the LCD/Digitizer connection. It is possible there is some sort of damage or corrosion on only this section of the motherboard. You will want to check your device for any signs of liquid damage (the white stickers inside the charge port, and inside the phone will be red).

It could also be that this software glitch is affecting only the touch component as it takes the most memory to operate. Similar to computers, a unit can lockup, freeze, or run into a high memory usage period, and everything on the unit will stall except the "ctrl, alt, delete" feature. Phones can do the same thing.

Start by backing up your data on iTunes, and then perform a restore to factory default settings. Use your device for a day without downloading any apps, and see if the problem comes back. If your iPhone works normally, you are good to go. If not, then you certainly have some type of hardware failure on your device. You may want to contact your source for the parts as you likely have a bad screen (this would be after the other troubleshooting ideas).

You can also mail in your device to one of our technicians for diagnostic testing as well. Simply fill out the short form at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail, and a technician will call you with an estimate once your device arrives.

  3. I just had my display replaced by a local business, and they returned it in good condition. However, when I make a phone call, the screen won't "lock" when I put it up to my ear, thereby causing my ear to inadvertently touch the "mute" or "hold" buttons while I'm talking to somebody. They said they may need to reattach the digitizer, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in them right now. Any idea what the problem may be, or what I could tell them to be aware of?

    1. Thanks Robert,

Your proximity sensor is not working. Normally, this is an easy thing to go wrong as there are several plugs squished together inside the iPhone 5S. The proximity sensor plug can easily not be lined up correctly, and once the plug is off center, the device acts up like this.

Take the device back to them, let them know what your device is doing, and they should be able to go back in, plug in the cable, and you should be good to go. At worse, the cable was damaged while they were repairing the phone. If this is the case, they should replace the cable for free as it was their fault.

More than likely however, the plug just wasn't fully plugged in.

  4. I replaced the glass only on my iPhone 5S. Now, the headphone mic and remote button don't work.

    1. Thanks Chris,

Typically, the glass cannot be replaced on it's own on an iPhone 5S (front glass); unless, you are talking about just the rear door glass. That can be easily swapped.

The headphone and mic ( we are not certain what the "remote" button is) are on the charge port flex cable. Open your device, and make sure the cable is fully plugged in. If it is and the parts are still not working, the you probably have a bad charge port flex cable. Once this part is replaced, you should be good to go.

  5. I recently changed the port dock on my iPhone 5s. In the process I removed the battery, which was extremely unnecessary, it seems that in doing so, my iPhone 5s volume control was damaged. This consists of the volume up and volume down button, along with the vibrate switch. I'd like to know how this may have occurred, and how I may fix it. Maybe it became undone or something.

    1. Thanks David,

The volume and mute keys are controlled by a flex cable in a different area of your phone then where your charge port is located. The only way these parts in question (battery, charge port, power flex cable) are related is through a potential power surge from the battery when it is removed or installed.

The power flex cable is located under almost every other component on your device. The best way to solve this problem will be to simply replace your power/volume flex cable (it's the same part).

  6. Hi,
I recently have encountered a problem with mostly white Iphone 5s.. after I replace a new LCD the device will power on, and freeze on the apple logo after which it will reboot and go bacj to the Blue screen and repeats the same action . I have tried to update the devices as is on itunes but still all dont come right...please Help

    1. Thanks Buli,

Sounds like your device either has more extensive damage than it initially appeared, or your device may simply not want to accept the new part. Try contacting your source for the parts, and see if they can get you another screen. It may fix everything.

If a new screen does not, then we suggest getting your device to a repair shop for diagnostic testing to see what exactly is going on with the phone. You can always mail in your device for repair with one of our technicians at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail.

  7. hi, i have iphone 5s that when it gets too hot, it's suddenly shutting down and hard to turned it back on then it continuous in getting hot even it is off until the battery's drained so fast.
What maybe the problem of my phone and what troubleshooting you can recommend to fix this problem. thanks.

    1. Thanks Kat,

You just need a new battery. The iPhone 5S has an overheating detector in the device (similar to many computers), and is getting tripped by your defective battery. Once you have a new battery in the device, this will stop and you will be good to go.

  8. Just replaced my iphone 5s all black digitizer the only problem is the fingerprint sensor is not reading my fingerprint

    1. Thanks Alex,

The main flex cable could have been nicked during the repair, or the micro-camera that is inside the home button may have been damaged during the same event that caused your screen to need replacement.

Either way, this flex cable can ONLY be replaced if you have NOT activated the finger print read feature. Each fingerprint reader is specifically encoded by Apple during manufacture. A new cable/reader cannot be activated on your device if the original is replaced.

Now, if your fingerprint reader was not activated, then you can replace the home button flex cable, and use your device like a normal iPhone 5 or 5C. If the feature was turned on, then you can't get into your device, and Apple will not accept it back as your device has been opened and repaired. Your only solution from here will be to just get a new phone all together.

  9. Hello! I was fixing an iPhone 5S that had contact with water, but during the repair procedure, I noticed that a pin of the digitizer connector was broken and the touch screen was kind of crazy, some letters like S, D, Z and X were not working, when the phone was on its vertical position. So I tried to put the pin back in place, by soldering it, but the touch screen is still facing the same problem. Could it be something else? Or the problem is with these pins and I did something wrong? Is there a specific pin for these letters (areas), that I described?

    1. Thanks Marco,

There are several issues at play here:

1.) Once a device has been damaged by liquid, ALL the internal parts begin to breakdown. In order to stop the breakdown, you have to have the device thoroughly cleaned by a technician. Normally, a device will resume full functionality after the cleaning without any other parts needing replacement.

2.) Screens cannot be soldered to repair them. The flex cables contain metal, and excess heat applied cause that metal to heat up and expand, cool and shrink, and them crack. Once a screen goes bad, then entire screen has to be replaced in order to get the device working again.

So at this point, your device needs a liquid damage cleaning and a new screen. Our technicians can do this at any of our stores, or you can mail in your device for repair at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail.

  10. Today I tried to plug my phone into charge right before I went to bed and its like something is blocking the charger from connecting to my phone. The charger won't stay plugged into my phone. When I tried to look inside it with a flash light I can't seem to find anything suck in there. I also tried finding an article about blocked charger ports, but all of them are talking about replacing it. I just want to see a picture of a working port and try to compare it to mine to see if anything is off, or broken. Please help, thanks!!

    1. Hi Lance!

  12. Hi, I had a question. I recently replaced my screen/digitizer and after putting it all back together my volume up button doesn't work and it will randomly turn the volume up whole I'm using the phone. And will continue to go up until I turn it down. It seems to sort of be triggered when I turn the phone sideways or tap the phone.

    1. Hi Marco!
You could either have a software issue or you might have damaged the volume flex cable. We can do a diagnostic on your device so that you are for sure what the issue is. To mail your device to us click this link ( )

  14. Sir. I have I phone 5s that phone finger print scanner is broken so i replace finger print scanner another iPhone 5s genuine part but not work finger print how to fix this plz tell me sir

    1. Hi Wosheem!
Well this is the issue that you will have. You will have to go to Apple and get the new finger print scanner registered to your device. The finger print scanners are all registered to the device they have been installed on and will no work without this registration.

  15. hello. I recently had my screen fixed professionally as I smashed it and now that I've received it back the vibrate doesn't work at all. it's really annoying me as I never know if someone's texted me or if someone's calling me. please help thanks

    1. Hi Maddie
Well first I would check your settings. If that all looks ok then there might have been damage caused to the vibrator motor or just a loose screw keeping it from working correctly.

  16. I replaced the LCD assembly on a iPhone 5s and after the first day of repairs the screen started operating on its own. I have had this happen with another 5s, but never before with other iPhone models. What could be the issue?

    1. Hi Bri
Well most times this is a bad screen but I would check the connections again to make sure.

  17. I recently dropped my iphone 5S from second flore, don't ask how. Long story short. I replaced the back and the display. After this change the mic stopped working and also the home button. I changed the home button and the mic flex with no result, same issue. Is it a bad ground or wat?

    1. Hi John
From a fall that high you could have damage to so circuits. I would have to see the device to diagnose it. Otherwise we will be looking for a needle in a hay stack.

  18. I can't upload a picture on this site so visit the link in this post to see the components that caused the problem I had. By the way, the blue marks on the board represent the battery connector (just in case you get lost ;).

    1. Hi John
Way to go I am happy you fixed the device. Thanks for the info.

  19. I just replaced a cracked iPhone 6 screen. Everything working perfect but front and back cameras. Screen is just black. I can switch from photo to video to square at bottom but the rest is just black and can't take a picture with camera or snapchat. I've done soft reset. The phone is jail broken. Trying to do a restore now. Have looked at all connections and everything looks like good. Have replaced 30+ screens and never had this happen. Can you advise?

    1. Hi Sherena
I would look at the circuits around the connectors and make sure you did not damage them.

  20. Hi. I recently just replaced my iPhone 5s screen. It will light up and display but the touch screen does not respond. It also has a grid pattern in the background. Does this have something to do with a broken fuse?

    1. Hi Jenna
I would double check your connections most of the time this is the issue.

  21. hey, I just got my screen replaced on my iPhone 5S. Shortly after, my screen went completely black, & wont turn on. hard reset & soft reset does not work. iTunes reset does not work as well. every time I try to connect it to a computer, it reads "the usb device malfunctioned," how can I fix this?

    1. Hi Chance
Well It does not sound good for the device. Most of the time this is not recoverable. It is normally caused by something getting shorted out or getting disconnected while trying t restore the device to factory via the DFU mode. We can look at it for you as a mail in repair at PHONEDOCTORS.com

  22. Hi,
I opened my 5s to replace the battery (with aftermarket) and to check why I have to put some pressure on the lighting connector for the phone to charge. I removed the screen and then the flex cable for the speakers, lighting connector and headphone jack. I cleaned the connector well with compressed air and contact cleaner spray. Then i reassembled it back with the original battery and everything was working fine. Then I installed the aftermarket battery and it did show a low battery. After it got charged for a few minutes the phone did not power on. I opened it to check the connections and the screen popped out suddenly, disconnecting the cable for the home button. At this time the screen lit-up really bright and the phone powered up. The colors were really messed up, the keyboard and lock sound dont work, everything else looks normal. I opened it a few times to check all the connections thoroughly, installed back the original battery, performed soft and hard reset, but nothing has changed.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

    1. Hi Kirk
It would be a good Idea to get your device to a repair technician so they can run diagnostics n your device. We offer a mail in repair at PHONEDOCTORS.com

  23. I had a cracked screen on a iPhone 5s for a few weeks. Everything worked fine otherwise. Finally decided to get it replaced. Took it to a repair shop and they replaced it. Everything seemed fine initially. Then hours later the screen had a dead area in the lower right. Took it back, they put a new one on. An hour later, the screen would be slow to respond and type different keys than what was touched. Did a soft reset and hard reset, and factory restore. Still acting the same. Waiting on a shipment of new screens to try again. Any suggestions?

    1. Hi R.C.
I would have the technician double check the screen connections it sounds like the digitizer connection is loose.

  24. Iphone5s: I've replaced the battery and while removing it I scratched the ribbon cable (now volume buttons and vibration don't work). Now the wierd part: my home button doesn't work but the fingerprint sensor does work! I don't know if it has anything to do with the home button. Any help?

    1. Hi Greg
It has everything to do with the flex cable that you scratched. You broke the connections that pertain to the functions affected. You will have to replace that flex cable.

  25. I recently replaced a cracked screen on my iPhone 5 and now I can barely hear the voice on the other end of a call. Thoughts? Thx for your help!

    1. Hi Robin
I would make sure that you did not get something stuck in the ear speaker or anything covering the ear speaker.

  26. I'm having a problem with my 5S battery life. It would usually end the day at 40-50% life and then overnight it would not even last a half day with the same usage. I did not install any new apps or have physical damage to the phone. I figured the battery went bad so I replaced it with an aftermarket and it did not change the problem. I did a factory reset and the life was still short when the phone was set up as a new phone without a restore. Additionally, it takes a lot longer to charge than it used to prior to the decrease in battery life, so I am suspecting a hardware problem that is draining power while in operation and charging. Also, only certain lightning cords (all official Apple cords) will work for charging. Any top suspects for a culprit?

    1. Hi Ken
Well as far as only certain cords working leads me to a bad charge port.

      1. Ok, thanks, I will try replacing. I did take a thermal image of the back side of the phone and it has a warm spot under the SIM card slot which is where the power management IC is located so that might be an issue. I'm not up to trying a replacement of the surface mounted component.

        1. Replacing the charge port did not help. I do suspect it is an IC on the processor board. Kinda funny, the one that gives the most problems is the IC which regulates the charging just happens to be labeled U2!

          1. Hi Ken
You are right that is the next step is replacing the IC chip.

  27. On the help regarding a potential bad battery, it says to connect the battery directly into a charger to test it. How can that be achieved if the connections on both don't match?

    1. Hi Claudio
I think there is a miss understanding. An iPhone battery can not be plugged directly into the charger you will have to plug your device in to the charger and let the battery charge for a few hours and see if it holds a charge if it does not then you will need a new battery.

  28. sir i have a iphone 5s my boss give it to me when i put the cable to charge tru computer i hear some sound from the iphone but screen it still black after a few minutes i try to on we dont have any respond from the iphone but in my computer is detected but in itune we have some error can you help me

    1. Hello Tony,

From the issues you are describing it sounds like the phone may have something wrong with the display. There is also a chance something more is going on with the phone, as you mentioned it was not being detected by iTunes. (This is not uncommon if you're using a Windows PC.)

I would recommend you take the phone to a local repair provider and see if they are able to replace the display. They would then also be able to verify that the phone connects to iTunes on their computer and rule out any additional issues.

I hope my suggestions have proven to be helpful.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  29. Hello,
I replaced the battery in my iPhone 5s. After reconnecting everything and putting my phone back together, I found that I have no sound and my fingerprint sensor isn't working. I can get sound through headphones, and my silence switch is not in the "orange" position. When I try to activate the fingerprint sensor via the options menu, it immediately goes to a failed message. Everything had worked perfectly prior to the battery change. I performed both a soft reset and a restore through iTunes, neither helped. Thanks for the help!

    1. Hello Dave,

Sorry to hear about the iPhone 5s. From the issue you are describing it sounds like you have possibly experiencing a issue with your charge port. If one of the connectors leading in yo the charge port is damaged it may cause the device to have issue as you are describing above. My next recommendation is replacing the charge port as it maybe able to remedy these above issues. However if replacing the charge port did not fix the issue with sound and touch ID then it is likely a filter was blown on the motherboard. If that is the case I strongly recommend taking the device to apple for an out of warranty replacement.

      Hope it helps.
      Robin B.

  30. Hello, I am using 5s i recently got my front cam cleaned at a service centre, larer that day whicle i was using my phone screen suddenly went grey.and turned on only after i lock it and unlocked it.i also got the dislpay connections checked at the service centre but all were good.i observed it to be severe while phone gets little hot not too much.and also screen doesnt grey for long say 5 mins while using if i press hard on the top right side of the screen near lock button. Help me out! Thanku !!

    1. Hello Goutham,

From the described issues, there could be something physically wrong with the device. Generally if you can resolve an issue by applying pressure to a device there is something wrong. Generally, something like this sounds like a screw might have gotten mixed up and swapped around with a slightly taller screw and that could be causing the issue. There could also have been damage done to the cabling which is causing the issue. I would seek out repair at a service center and see if they can resolve the issues.

I hope my suggestions have been helpful.

      Thank You,
      Matthew Jones.

  31. Hello Sir
    I need your Help

I have a irritating problem. Sometimes when i use my iPhone 5s the touchscreen becomes unresponsive. The phone isn't stuck cause the homebutton works, but touch doesn't work at all.
But if i lock the phone, and unlock it, the touch works perfect again.

This happens sporadically, and I have no idea why. I'm thinking it's a software error, as it always works after a lock/unlock.

    1. Hello Akshat and thanks for the question.

The issue you are describing is not uncommon. I do see this on devices which have a failing Digitizer. The digitizer is the component that lives between the glass and the LCD on the phone and registers your finger presses. If the digitzer is failing this could present in the phone becoming unresponsive to touch while remaining responsive to button inputs, like volume or home button, power button, etc...

Generally speaking, a screen replacement should resolve issues you have with touch on the phones as the new screen will come with a new Digitizer sandwiched between the front glass and LCD.

I hope my comment is able to answer your question.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  32. I replaced my iphone 5s screen and now my front facing camera will not work?

    1. Hello Mike and thank you for your question.

This is actually quite common and I believe the issue lies with the "Front Proximity Flex". If you want to look over some videos, I recommend you watch the iFixit video for the iPhone 5s and pay special attention to the Front Camera/Proximity Flex portion. I believe your components are not installed all the way and disassembling them then reassembling the device should resolve your issue.

I hope my suggestion proves to be the correct answer.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  33. I have an iphone 6 that I recently had the screen replaced by a third party. Right after replacement, I am experiencing fast battery drain. Usually with normal use my battery will last from 6am and still be at 10% by 10pm. Now my battery is dead within 6-7 hours. Also, the reception as far as service isn't as good as it was just last week. Is this all caused by the new screen?

    1. Hello Shardul and thank you for the comment.

From what you are describing it does sound like something did not go all the way as planned with that repair. If you are now experiencing issues after having a component replaced there is a chance something occurred during the repair which has caused this issue. From my experience, a new screen will not generally cause these types of issues. However, if something was damaged while the technician was performing the repair, that could be the root of the issues. I would recommend you return to your service provider and ask them to investigate the issue. If you don't want to return to the provider of your previous service, I would at least take the phone to another provider and have it looked at there.

I hope my comments have proven to be helpful.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  34. Hi..i just change my touch screen which is broken..but when i use for a few minutes my screen freeze...try on and off but then after sometimes it freeze again...try a few new touch screen and the result is the same..hope u can help me..tq

    1. Hello Steven and thank you for the question.

From the issue you are describing it could be that the device is having an issue registering the touches because a software process is causing the phone to lag. I would attempt to restore this device using iTunes and see if that causes the device to become more responsive. If you are met with the same issues after the restore then this issue might reside on the motherboard of the device. If this issue is a motherboard based issue I would strongly recommend replacing the device as opposed to repairing it. There are a lot of iPhone 5s available and you'd be able to pick one up for less than it would cost to have a technician replace anything on the motherboard of that phone.

I hope my comments have been helpful.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  35. I just replaced my iPhone 5s battery, and now my microphone doesn't work. People can only hear me on speaker phone, and I can't record voice memos, but my video recordings still have sound. What did I damage?
Also, the battery replacement hasn't improved battery life at all, even though I replaced the stock battery with a 2600 mAh extended life battery. Any thoughts?
    Thank you!

  39. Hi, please help me to solve this

I had a problem with my iPhone 5s. This happens when i reset the setting of my phone, then it gone wrong dislayed "Sim Not Supported". I already changed the Sim Card believing that my sim was just expired but difinitely not. Well, the only problem is that "no service" indicated there. No signals. I went to the iCenter to fix my phone. They said my chip was already expired so they have change variety of chip but still it didn't work. There's still no service. I use wifi at this moment with this iphone.

  40. i experinced shaking and typing itself..any suggestiosns

  41. Hello. I recently replaced the power button ribbon, battery, lighting port, speaker and digitizer on my iPhone 5c. I plugged it in to the charger and the icon for the charger being plugged in came on for a second then that was it. Nothing now. Soft restart. Can't do a hard reset because the computer won't recognize the phone. I also noticed it is getting a little hot when plugged into the charger. I took the old power button ribbon and plugged it into the logic board and still nothing. If you have any life saving ideas I'm all ears. Thank you.

  42. Hi guys! My son's iPhone 5s completely died. I'm pretty sure it was the battery because it would barely last if not on the charger. We replaced the battery and since the screen was cracked we replaced it as well. I ordered the screen with all of the attachments. Now the phone has a really soft purple illumination and if you hold down the power the apple briefly flashes. Nothing else happens. Any idea what the problem may be?

  43. Replacing battery on iPhone 5s. Swollen battery caused the screen to push out at top.

I used suction cup. It only pulled 0ff the glass and digitizer. Not the rest of the internal. Home button is still in phone as well as the stainless steel part. How do I get these things out so I can replace battery?
