How to Fix Common Problems with Apple iPad Mini Repair

How to Fix Common Problems with Apple iPad Mini Repair

We are here to help! Our technicians have answered the most common questions about how to fix common problems with Apple iPad Mini repair process.  Depending on the device, mobile phone and tablet repairs can be a tedious process.  Troubleshooting is a vital part of both diagnosing a broken part, and discovering what step was missed after repair.  Relax, we are here to make your life easier.

We offer a full lineup of repair parts for the Apple iPad Mini including:

Apple iPad Mini Back Camera: This is your default camera located on the rear of your device. If you are experiencing problems such as a fuzzy image or lines through your pictures, you may actually have damage over the external lens area of your camera. If your pictures look distorted while viewing on your device, but after downloading them to your computer are clear, your screen has gone bad not the camera. If you are having any other problems with your camera, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Battery: This is your main, mobile power source for your device. The iPad Mini battery is located under almost every other component on this device. You can replace your battery without breaking your top digitizer, but this extremely difficult to do. If you’re uncertain if your issue is with your battery, plug your device directly into your computer. If everything works while plugged into your PC, but your device turns off right after you unplug it, then you need a new battery. If your device has to be recharged more often than usual, or will not charge at all, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Bluetooth Antenna Flex Cable: This is located on the lower, right hand side of your device next to the home button. This antenna controls the syncing of other devices and accessories to your iPad Mini. Unlike other iPads, the Mini splits its Bluetooth and WiFi functions between 2 antennas. The WiFi antenna is located on the left side of your device. If your iPad Mini will not connect to a wireless internet signal, you may need to replace both this bluetooth antenna, and your WiFi antenna on the other side of your home button.

Apple iPad Mini Button Set of Power, Sleep, Volume: This is a set of 4 separate parts. These parts independently control your volume rocker, sleep mode activation switch, and the lock or power button. Normally, issues with these parts are due to broken interior flex cables that can also be replaced. These external buttons only need replacement if the original part has been lost, or removed and will no longer fit.

Apple iPad Mini Cellular Antenna Flex Cables: These are a set of two cables that together operate your device’s connection to your cellular network. Your device connects to your cellular network using 3 different components. The first is this cellular antenna set. The second is your SIM card, and the third is your SIM card reader. If you are having issues connecting to your service provider, but not your WiFi, then this is most likely the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Charge Port Flex Cable: This is similar to all other iPad devices. This charge port cable controls just your charging functions on the iPad Air. You may be looking at a battery problem if your device will not hold a charge for long, and will function normally when you plug your device straight into a computer. If you are experiencing other problems such as no charging, or no computer connectivity, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Front Camera: This is your secondary camera located on the front of your device. If you are experiencing problems such as a fuzzy image or lines through your pictures, you may actually have damage over the lens area of your front camera (your screen). If your pictures look distorted while viewing on your device, but after downloading them to your computer are clear, your screen has gone bad not the camera. If you are having any other problem with your camera, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Head Phone Jack Flex Cable Cellular Version: This is your main port where you plug in a set of headphones to listen to music, or receive a phone call using headphones with a microphone. The iPad Mini has 2 different versions of this cable depending on if you have a WiFi or Cellular version. This audio flex cable does not control your external sound for items like, apps, games, phone calls on speaker phone, or video calls. If you are having problems not being able to hear sound through a set of headphones, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Head Phone Jack Flex Cable WiFi Version: This is your main port where you plug in a set of headphones to listen to music, or receive a phone call using headphones with a microphone.

Apple iPad Mini Home Button: This is the cosmetic external piece you click to access your main “home page”. This should only need replacement if you received a new digitizer without a home button, or you lost your home button due to damage. The iPad Mini has a unique design with it’s home button flex cable. This flex is part of the digitizer flex cable. If you have the external home button, but your click feature will no longer work, you will need to replace your entire digitizer.

Apple iPad Mini LCD Display Screen: This controls your main visual display. The LCD is found under the top touch screen glass. The LCD is also a separate component from your digitizer. If your touch function is not working, or your top glass is broken, then you will need to replace your digitizer. If you can no longer see a clear image on your device’s screen, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Microphone Flex Cable: This is your main audio pick up to allow other folks to hear you. This microphone is located at the top of the iPad Mini, and is an exceptionally difficult repair. In order to get to this part, you must first remove all the other components at the top of your device. For this reason, we suggest letting one of our technicians complete this repair instead. If Siri can no longer hear your commands, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Power Plus Volume Flex Cable: This is your primary on/off and sound level controller on your device. This cable is located at the top of your device (under the power button), and snakes through your unit to connect with your volume buttons. The iPad Mini power flex is a difficult repair in that you must remove a cover on your devices’ motherboard in order to complete this process. There is an extreme risk that your motherboard may be damaged during this repair if you are not confident in your tech skills. If your device will not turn on using your power button, then this is the part you need.

Apple iPad Mini Precut Adhesive: This is used to seal down your top touch screen digitizer during the repair. The digitizer on an iPad Mini sets down onto the main back housing of your device. If you do not use some type of adhesive to seal your screen down, you will need to use really messy glue instead. If you opt to use glue, any glue that gets on your internal components can destroy your device. At the very least, it will make any further repairs on your device almost impossible.

Apple iPad Mini SIM Card Tray: This is an easy replacement if you have a SIM Card Removal Tool. We include both with your order of this part! Our SIM trays do not include any serial numbers like the original tray does. Your IMEI number can always be found under the settings section of your device.

Apple iPad Mini Touch Screen Digitizer Plus IC Connector: This is the top glass of your device, and controls your main touch function. The digitizer is a separate component from your main LCD display screen. If you cannot see an image on your device, you will need to replace your LCD screen along with your digitizer. If your touch function no longer works, or your top glass is broken, then this is the part you need. The iPad Mini digitizer requires an additional micro chip on the flex cable in order to operate properly. This version of the iPad Mini digitizer includes the IC chip.

Apple iPad Mini WiFi Antenna Flex Cable: This is located on the lower, left hand side of your device next to the home button. This antenna controls your device’s connectivity to a wireless internet signal. Unlike other iPads, the Mini splits its WiFi and Bluetooth functions between 2 antennas. The Bluetooth antenna is located on the right side of your device. If your device will not sync to an external device (headset, speakers, or something else of this nature), you may need to replace your Bluetooth antenna in addition to this one.

My phone is freezing, running slow, repair did not work, spazzing out! What can I do?

Performing a soft reset can resolve issues like continuous resetting/rebooting, crashing, freezing, can’t make or receive calls, and other general software related problems. This process is similar to rebooting a computer after it freezes up. Phones are small computers after all.

Soft Reset – This should not erase your data, but it is always a good idea to do a backup. With your device turned on…

  1. Press and hold Power Button.
  2. Press and hold the Home Button.
  3. Your device will now shut down and reboot.

I did a soft reset, but my phone is still not working correctly. What can I do?

A hard reset can resolve issue like: blank or frozen screen, crashing apps, touch screen problems, no audio, random noises, no call functionality or sync errors.

Hard Reset – **This process will erase all your data**, and erase any accounts linked to your device as well.

  1. Connect your device to a computer that has iTunes.
  2. Make sure your device is selected from the left menu in iTunes.
iTunes iPhone restore
  1. Click Restore.
  2. If iTunes asks you to back up your data, Click Yes.
  3. Click Restore.
  4. iTunes will prepare and restore your device. Do not unplug your device at this time!
  5. When finished, iTunes will ask if you would like to restore your data. Choose at your desire.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Back Camera, now it will not work!

  1. If your device is not acknowledging your new camera (your app is blank), you will want to try a soft reset before you reopen your device. A soft reset will clear your devices’ cache memory for your old camera, and recalibrate to allow your new camera to work. If after this you still see nothing…
  2. Check the alignment of your camera. If your camera is off-center, then your back housing will block your camera, and give the impression of your camera not working.
  3. If your pictures look fuzzy, there may be a protective film over the new camera. Open your device again, and remove this film. With your device open, double-check your camera and camera lens for any sign of debris or scratches. These types of scuffs and dirt can also blur your camera.
  4. If your pictures look distorted while viewing on your device, but after downloading them to your computer they are clear, then your LCD screen has gone bad, not the camera. You will need to replace your LCD to resolve this problem.
  5. If after this troubleshooting your camera still will not work you may have a defective or broken camera.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Battery, now it will not work!

  1. Try a different power cable on your device. You may have a USB cable that has gone bad at the same time as your battery. This is a fairly common occurrence. If this does not work…
  2. Remove your battery, and plug your iPad straight into your computer. If your device does not power on at all, then you may have a bad charge port. Try replacing the charge port flex cable.
  3. Is your device not fully powering on, or is it stuck in a boot loop? If it is, this is usually a sign of a weak battery.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Bluetooth Antenna Flex Cable, now it will not work!

  1. If your device will not connect to a wireless internet signal, you will need to replace your WiFi antenna on the left side of your iPad Mini. These 2 antennas work in tandem, so if one antenna needs to be replaced, odds are the other one does as well.
  2. If you cannot get a bluetooth device to sync to your iPad Mini (headset, external speakers, or other device), start with performing a soft reset on your iPad Mini. A soft reset will force your device to recalibrate, and accept this new antenna. If a reset does not work…
  3. Reattempt the repair on your device. Check for any signs of damage on your antenna such as nicks in the wire or crimping (excessive folding). Crimping causes cracks in the metal of a part, and cracks will prevent a strong signal from flowing into your device. If you have a partial connection to a bluetooth device, but it dies after a few feet, then there is normally some kind of crimp in the wire.
  4. If none of this troubleshooting works you may have a defective or broken part.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Button Set of Power, Sleep, Volume, now it will not work!

  1. Reattempt the repair from the beginning. Double check all the flex cables connected to these external buttons. If these cables are damaged, you will need to replace them before these features (power, sleep, volume) will work again. In addition…
  2. Make certain your cables don’t show any signs of crimping (folding in half). Flex cables contain small amounts of metal inside; this is what allows power or a signal to flow through the cable. If one of these flex cables is crimped, it will cause a crack in the metal, and render this part useless.
  3. If your cables look fine you may have a defective or broken button set.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Cellular Antenna Flex Cables, now they will not work!

  1. Start by checking your SIM card. If your card has any signs of damage, or extreme wear and tear, you will want to get a new SIM card from your service provider to rule out this part as the source for your lack of connectivity. After this step…
  2. Check your internal SIM card reader for any signs of damage. If your device has been dropped, or if your iPad has been exposed to any liquid, you will want to get your device checked by a technician before completing any additional repairs.
  3. Did you replace both antennas? Try alternating your old antennas with the new ones. If only one of the 2 cables has gone bad, you may be able to use 1 of your old antennas, and one of the new ones to get your device connected again. As a final step…
  4. Double check all your connections and screws inside your device. The entire device is a signal receiver, and if enough screws are loose, it can cause your device to not connect to your cellular network.
  5. If none of these steps work, this is normally a sign of something worse than a defective antenna set, and we suggest mailing in your device for repair.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Charge Port Flex Cable, now it will not work!

  1. Start with plugging your device directly into your computer. If your iPad will connect to iTunes, then your charge port is fine. You may need to look into replacing your battery instead. If parts other than the charge port are not working…
  2. Reattempt the repair from the beginning. The iPad Air requires you to move multiple components before you can replace your charge port. Make certain every part was plugged in correctly while reassembling your device.
  3. If this does not fix the problem you may have a defective or broken flex cable.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Front Camera, now it will not work!

  1. If your device is not acknowledging your new camera (app won’t flip to front camera mode), then you will want to try a soft reset before you reopen your device. A soft reset will clear your device’s cache memory for your old camera, and recalibrate to allow your new camera to work. If after this you still see nothing…
  2. Check the alignment of your camera. If your camera is off center, then your top glass will block your camera lens, and give the impression your camera won’t work.
  3. If your pictures look distorted while viewing on your device, but after downloading them to your computer they are clear, then your LCD screen has gone bad not the camera. You will need to replace your LCD to resolve this problem.
  4. If after this troubleshooting your camera still will not work you may have a defective or broken camera.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Head Phone Jack Flex Cable Cellular Version, now it will not work!

  1. If you are having problems with parts that are not this head phone jack, start by reattempting the repair from the beginning. This head phone jack can only be reached by moving other internal components. Double check all the screws and plugs during the repair, and make certain no cables were damaged or misaligned.
  2. If you are having problems with just this part, try a different set of headphones. All headphones have the same plug width, but there is a different length for many headphone cables. If you are using a pair of headphones that is not the correct length, then you will not hear sound out of this port. Similar to this is…
  3. Your headphones may be damaged. Try a different set of headphones, and see if this helps. If not…
  4. Try a soft reset on your device. It could be that your device is not acknowledging the new part. A soft reset will not erase your data, and will allow your device to recalibrate for this new part.
  5. If this still doesn’t work you may have a defective or broken part.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Head Phone Jack Flex Cable WiFi Version, now it will not work!

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Home Button, now it will not work!

  1. If your home button will not click at all, remove your digitizer, and check for any debris near your home button. The iPad Mini home button does not feature any sort of bracketing to hold this button in. All of the “back stop pressure” comes from the metal housing frame of your device. If your digitizer is not flush after repair, your home button will not receive the pressure needed to make the button work. Another option…
  2. If you can hear a click, but you get no response from your unit, double check your digitizer flex cable for any signs of nicks or crimps (excessive folding). The home button flex cable on an iPad Mini is part of the digitizer flex cable of this device. If either cable has taken any damage, you will need to replace your entire iPad Mini digitizer before your device will work again.
  3. If your cables look intact, and you can feel the “click” feature, we suggest mailing in your device for diagnostic testing. There is most likely some type of damage on the motherboard of your device, but it is difficult to check without seeing the device.
  4. As an alternative you may simply have a defective or broken part.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini LCD Display Screen, now it will not work!

  1. If you have an all white or all black display, start by performing a soft reset on your device. Blank screens are usually a sign of internal software not wanting to accept the new parts. A soft reset will clear your device of any temporary data that is blocking your new part from working. If your screen still will not work after a reset…
  2. Reattempt the repair from the beginning. Check the LCD flex cable (the part you plug in) for any signs of nicks or crimps (excessive folding). Crimping causes microfractures in the thin metal inside a flex cable. Once this metal is cracked, power and other impulses cannot flow through the device.
  3. If you see blotches on your display, this is a sign of too much pressure on the screen caused in shipping or during installation. Open your device again, and make certain there is no residual glass from your original broken screen. If after clearing your device and finishing the repair, the blotches still persist, disable your devices “sleep mode”. Now plug your device straight into a home charger or PC, and leave your unit on (with the screen lit) for 24 hours. If the pressure on the LCD was light enough, the liquid crystals inside your device will sometimes fill back in to their original place.
  4. If you see lines down your display, or you have only a partially working touch function, then you may have a defective or broken screen.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Microphone Flex Cable, now it will not work!

  1. If your new microphone works, but other components are not working (front or back camera, or no service connectivity), we suggest mailing in your device for repair by a technician. There are numerous flex cables involved with this repair. If any of these cables are either not plugged in, or have crimps (excessive folding) in them, they can affect the other cables around them.
  2. If your device works the same as before, but your new microphone still will not work correctly, reattempt the repair from the beginning. Double check your microphone cable for any signs of nicks or crimps. Crimping causes microfractures in the thin metal inside a flex cable. Once this metal is cracked, power and other impulses cannot flow through the device.
  3. If your cable looks free of crimps, but your new part still will not work you may have a defective or broken part.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Power Plus Volume Flex Cable, now it will not work!

  1. If your iPad Mini will not turn on, try plugging your device straight into a PC or home charger. If your device will turn on through an external power source, then your new power button may simply be loose. Reattempt the repair and make certain your cable was not crimped (folded too much). Crimping causes micro fractures in the thin metal inside a flex cable. Once this metal is cracked, power and other impulses cannot flow through the device. If after this step, your device still will not turn on…
  2. We suggest mailing in your device for diagnostic testing. There is a high chance that something on your motherboard has come loose, and our technicians will be able to diagnose this better once they can see your device. Sadly, most damage to a motherboard is not able to be repaired.
  3. If your device works the same as before, but your power button still will not work after the earlier troubleshooting steps you may have a defective or broken part.

I replaced my iPad Air digitizer, but the Apple iPad Mini Precut Adhesive, will not work!

  1. After sealing down your top touch screen, place a couple of rubber bands around your device (one up top, and one on the bottom). Let the rubber bands stay on your device for 24 hours. This will normally apply enough pressure to allow the adhesive to create a solid seal and keep your digitizer in place.
  2. If your top digitizer will not set down flush with your device, you may have some type of debris or residual glass left on your device. Remove your top glass, and clear out the entire frame of your device.  A can of air, or the metal pry tool (included with your DIY kit) will easily dislodge any remnants of your original broken screen. Your new digitizer should now seal just fine.
  3. Was your frame bent during the initial impact of your device? If so, you will need to bend the iPad Mini frame back into place before this adhesive will work correctly.
  4. If none of these three things work then you may need extra adhesive, or you may have a defective digitizer.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini SIM Card Tray, now it will not work!

  1. Your SIM Card may have worn out, or become demagnetized. Contact your service provider, and get a new SIM Card to see if this will fix the problem. you should not need to change phone numbers to get a new SIM card. If this does not help…
  2. Your SIM card reader may be damaged. If this part is not working, then it is highly unlikely it can be repaired. Your best solution will be to bring your device to one of our locations, or mail it in for diagnostic testing.
  3. If your SIM card tray simply will not fit you may have a defective SIM card tray.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini Touch Screen Digitizer Plus IC Connector, now it will not work!

  1. Check the flex cable on the iPad Mini digitizer. If this flex cable does not include the IC connector chip, then your digitizer will not work. If your part came from someone else, see if you can return your part for one that includes the IC chip.
  2. If you have no response at all when you touch your top glass, then you may have a loose connection. Redo your repair from the beginning. Make certain all your cables are fully plugged in. In addition, check your cables for any signs of crimps or tears that may have happened during your installation. Crimps and rips will render a part defective. If…
  3. Only a certain grid of icons will not work such as the top third, or left side, you may have a cable that is misaligned. Open your device, and make certain all the connectors on the flex cable match up. If this plug is off center, you will see problems such as this called “blocking”.
  4. If after both steps your digitizer still does not work then you may have a defective or broken digitizer.

I replaced my Apple iPad Mini WiFi Antenna Flex Cable, now it will not work!

  1. If your device will not sync to an external device (headset or speakers), you may need to replace your Bluetooth antenna in addition to this one.  These 2 antennas work in tandem, so if one antenna needs to be replaced, odds are the other one does as well.
  2. If you cannot link to a wireless internet signal at all, start with performing a soft reset on your iPad Mini.
If you have only a weak internet signal, then there is normally some kind of crimp in the wire.
  4. If none of this troubleshooting works you may have a defective or broken part.

Your repair guide said my part is possibly defective or broken, what’s next?

  1. Contact your source for the parts to see what their warranty will cover. If your device is not covered, or is outside it’s warranty, we would be happy to help.
  2. If your parts came from Phone Doctors…

  1. My touch screen suddenly goes berserk after playing for awhile. I have never had this problem before. I have tried a reset and restore; still have the same problem. This iPad Mini (A1432) has been well cared for, never jailbroken, no water, nothing as far as I know.

    1. Thanks Kathie,

As you have already tried the usual software related fixes for this issue, then there are only 2 options left:
1.) Most likely, your battery is going bad. Batteries don't last forever, and if it is either facing power fluctuations or overheating, this could easily explain why your digitizer is acting up after some use.
2.) Your touch screen may be going bad. What caused this is hard to say, but if you carry your device inside a bad at all, then pressure from items in the bag can cause a touch screen to go bad over time. Replacing the digitizer will get you back up and running.

Sine you are looking at 2 different possibilities here, your best solution will be to send your device to a technician for diagnostic testing. You can send your device to us, and once a tech knows which problem it is on your device, they will only charge for the repair that is needed, without any additional fees. If this is of interest, simply fill out the short form at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail.

  2. Suddenly the screen on my I pad will not register the letter "P" on its keypad. The scren is not cracked or damaged in any way and is clean. It won't work with a stylus or my finger. It is only 2 months old. Anything I can do.?

    1. Thanks Gary,

Yes, your digitizer has gone bad on your iPad. Replacing the front glass will get your device working again. We sell repair parts right here online, or you can mail in your device for repair with one of our technicians at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail.

  3. My iPad mini stopped recording sound on the videos I took last week. All the previous videos I took have sound and my games have sound. I have reset it and still no sound when I record something - I can't find anything on this problem. It isn't the side button because that just mutes calls and notifications - I do not use as a phone and have no web access - I play games, take pics and videos.

    1. Greetings,

The issue may be in the microphone. If any of your games respond to spoken or verbal commands through their interface, this is one option to check. If so, then replacing this part may be of assistance.

You may also wish to see if an unusually hidden option has been selected on the recording program itself. I would check here first; if there was not any major trauma to the device, it may be an internal setting and would save both some time and effort.

  4. My iPad mini won't turn on at all, when connected it only shows the "connect to itunes screen", iTunes recognizes it as in restore, but it won't restore and gives me error 2001 and sometimes error 21.

Would changing the battery fix this issue or is it something more? thanks!

    1. Greetings,

A battery change may help on the device. Also be sure that the firmware is properly registered to Apple, and you should have a stronger chance.

  5. I'm having issues with my iPad Mini. When I charge the pad at night before bed it goes idle then at some point overnight it shuts off. When I go to turn on in the morning the Apple logo comes up on the screen but it takes a while to come on. I end up doing a soft reset to get it to go on but even that takes a few tries. I want to do a hard reset on it but my teenager uses it and is complaining about me resetting LOL but I think I will give it a try. I am guessing that is what you are going to suggest but hoping you may have other ideas LOL. Please let me know what you think. Thank You!

    1. Thanks Jamie,

Yes, try the hard reset, and see if that works. If not, then you may need a new battery. It could be that the long boot times are due to your battery no longer being able to send out a full charge.

If the reset does not work, then try a new battery next.

  6. I cracked my screen on my Ipad mini and replaced the screen and digitizer. It worked good for several months, then the home button stopped working and then several weeks later nothing works. It doesn't even turn on. What could the problem be?

    1. Thanks Trish,

If the device won't turn on, it is possible that you have a bad LCD screen, but more than likely, your battery has just died.

The home button is controlled by an internal flex cable, so this part may have come loose from it's plug or have just gone bad. Either way, there is some diagnostic checking that needs to go on with your device. We suggest taking your iPad to either a local technician or mail it in for us to repair at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail.

  7. Hi! I just acquired a defective iPad mini. digitiser flex cable had been cut for some reason and the circuit board that's attached to the battery was snapped as well so i replaced the digitiser which came with the flex and IC and replaced the battery with a new one but it still doesn't switch on.
I can't quite tell if the LCD back light has gone however i can't see a faint apple logo.
it also doesn't get detected by iTunes.

Do you have any recommended things to test before giving up?

    1. Thanks SiJo,

Sounds like (in addition to the 2 things you fixed), you need a new LCD screen and a new charge port. We do have both parts available right here online as DIY repair kits, so you can do these repairs on your own.

You can also mail in your device for a technician to diagnose. Before doing any repairs, our techs can diagnose what is going on. If you want us to repair your device from there we can. Otherwise, we can mail your device back from there, and you can repair the device on your own.

It doesn't sound like a lost cause at this stage, but it does appear (based on your description) that your device does need some additional repairs.

  8. Hi,

    1. Thanks Manye,

When a device is touched by liquid, the internal components begin to break down.

This process does not stop, when the liquid is gone, and the only way to get your device back up and running (hopefully) is to do a liquid damage cleaning. A technician will clean every area of your device with a high grade cleaner. Normally, a mobile device will resume full functionality after the cleaning.

Sometimes, parts will be too damaged as a result of the liquid, and will need replacement afterward. If that is the case, most repair shops (especially ours) will give you a price quote for repair before they fix anything on the device.

If you would like us to clean your device, you can mail in your phone or tablet at: www.phonedoctors.com/mail.

  9. my iPad keeps blinking on and off. Have to push facebook bottom to go back .

  10. My ipad mini won't display photos and videos in websites. Some are displayed, played but quite often there's a question mark where the photo should be and the video doesn't do anything. Have tried the manuals and other sites but so far no luck. Thanks. Joyra

    1. Have you tried a soft reset? Hold the power button and the home button at the same time. When the device turns off let go of the home button and continue to hold the power button till the apple logo appears the release the power button.

      1. Speakers now have a static sound coming out.. Yikes...

  11. I live in a rural area and have only a mi-fi 3G from Verizon. It operates my laptop but my new ipad mini wont connect? Anything I can do to get ipad on??

    1. Hi Tom!
I would have to say that it is a settings issue with either the mi-fi 3G or the iPad mini. I would double check the settings and if all that seems ok then I would contact the service provider and have them look at the device setting.

  12. Hi
    Doctor Dan ,

I have annoying that i asked apple support and they didnt give any solution !

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6VsixZJGSQ

    :( plz help

    1. Hi Alaa!
I know exactly what the issue is. It is what we call ghosting. This issue is caused by the digitizer shorting out on the frame. We can repair this for you as a mail in repair at this link .

  13. My iPhone was working two days ago. Just did not work Power button and has a very low battery (the battery discharged for 5-6 hours) .I am iphone disassembled and replaced a new battery. Now the iPhone will not be turned on. The display is black and vibrates every 5 seconds when I connect it to the charger or computer .
I disconnected a few times and merged display, but the situation is still the same.
iTunes see the iphone when connected to a computer, but he constantly vibrates.
I put a second battery, but the situation is again at the same
    Sorry for my bad english.

    1. Hi Iphone
I would try plugging in the phone to the computer and leaving it for a while to see if it will charge. Also I would try using another cable if possible.

  14. My Mini iPad screen was replaced, now it's on "searching" for the last 3 days. Please, kindly help!

    1. Hi Tony. Hopefully, it's something as simple as a connection not being snapped back into place after the repair. Otherwise, it's more than likely a damaged component or antenna flex cable.

    2. Hi Tony did the solution below fix your problem? I replaced the screen on an iPad 2 a few days ago and now its been stuck on searching this whole time.

      1. Hi Christian
I would double check all of your connections and also look for damage to any components in the device. If you would like a certified technician to look at your device we offer a mail in repair service at PHONEDOCTORS.com

  15. Just replaced the digitizer on my son's ipad mini due to shattered glass. On power up, i get red/green blue vertical lines along the left edge and bottom (near home button) of the screen (ipad held with home button toward you, power button top left). The lines on the bottom occasionally "creep up" about 1" up the display.

Rest of the device works normally (touch screen works, opens apps, sound, etc).

There was a strip of clear yellow tape along the edge of the new digitizer across the home button. Was that supposed to be removed? If it was not, would that be responsible for the LCD glitches? Is it possible for the digitizer and lcd connectors to not seat fully, but still turn on and work?

I had a hard time reseating the connectors and having any confidence that the pins were aligned and fully plugged in. Based on the touch screen working, I am assuming I got that one in okay, but wondering about the LCD. Are there any other diagnostics that can be done, or should I just take it apart again and unplug and replug the connectors?

    Thanks,
    -Kent

    1. Hi Kent
Yes I would take it apart again. It sounds like you have a bad connection. I would also put that yellow tape back on as that is to keep the digitizer (Glass) from shorting out.

  16. Hi, my touch screen on my iPad mini seems to have a mind of its own. It wouldn't let me write to you at first and some of the keys type on there own.
The screen suddenly enlarges and goes small again. Can you help please?

    1. Hi Jill
Well I have to ask has your device been worked on before? If it has the digitizer is shorting out on the frame. You will need to have the digitizer lifted off again and tape put over the home button flex. If this is not the case then I would recommend backing up your device and restoring it back to factory then reinstalling your back up. We also offer a mail in repair service where we can diagnose and repair your device in the same place just go to PHONEDOCTORS.com and click on mail in repair.

      1. Hi, I have gone through the process of backing up my data and then taking it back to factory setting with the aid of Apple support. However this has not solved the problem.
Not sur what to do next. Can you help please?

  17. My ipad mini screen has suddenly started flashing uncontrollably. It usually flashes back and forth between the last 2 screens it's been on. It's been somewhat responsive in that I can turn it on and off and I even did a "restore" but it is back to the white screen when you first start up and doing the same flashing thing between the Update Complete screen and a log in screen. I don't think it was dropped...but with my 4 year old it's a possibility. Help please!!!

    1. Hi Angela
I wish I could give you an easy answer but your device will need some diagnostics run on it to find the problem. We offer this as a mail in repair at PHONEDOCTORS.com

  18. I replaced my ipad mini at first the home button worked, after I closed the ipad up the home button and power button functions both went out. I opened it back up I was wondering if I had to buy another screen, or is this simply a fix of moving the pieces of tape and rubber strips around.

    1. Hi Tempest
I recommend that you put some electrical tape over the flex cable that connects to the home button. Making sure that you cover any gold that can be seen some times this will short out on the chassis.

  19. Good day Doc,
I've just fixed my iPad mini 3 that was badly warped. It was so bad that Apple and all repair shops refuse to touch it. I took all the parts out of the back housing to straighten it, then rebuilt them. Surprisingly, only the LCD and digitizer that need replacing ... so far.
The repair went well, the only problem is it cannot be charged more than 76%. And when the battery is above 74%, the iPad reboots itself every 3 minutes. It runs perfect when battery is less than 74% charged. The iPad is only 6 months old, the battery should be in good condition.
Have you seen this kind of problem?
    Thanks heaps!

    1. Hi Leon
I have seen this charging issue before. More than likely the battery was damaged either during the repair or when it was bent. The charge port could also have an issue, but I would replace the battery first.

  20. Hi. I have an ipad mini a1432 that i got someone. It is in imaculate shape. I was told that it was being used to surf the web and suddenly shut down. Now it wont start up, connect to computer, nothing at all. They took to apple store and they couldnt revive it. It is not very old from my understanding. I tried all the normal things to get it up again. I think it might be a battery needing replaced. If anyone knows what else it could be please let me know. I would also like to know what a diagnostic test would cost and a new battery put in cost. Thanks.

    1. Hi Vw
Well i would have to run some diagnostics on the device to know what is going on. The diagnostics runs 25.00 but if we find the issue and can fix it we will only charge you for the repair. For example say we find it is the battery it would then cost $64.99 plus the shipping. The 25.00 fee is waived. You must know that when doing a diagnostics on an iPad mini that there is a risk of breaking the digitizer (Top glass) in which case you would be liable for that as well but you will get the digitizer replaced at our cost and not the full price of 99.99.

  21. all of a sudden, there is no Comment line following FB posts. They are all friends and I've never had this problem before. Suggestions, please?

    1. Hi Jean
I would try a soft reset. If that does not work I would back up your device and do a factory reset most times software issues are fixed by one of these two steps.

  22. I just had the screen replaced on my grandson's iPad mini. Screen works great, but now it won't charge. Could there be a loose connection or do I need a stronger battery charger because of the new screen...or maybe something else. I've tried resetting, but no response. It's like the iPad does not recognize that the battery charger is plugged in.

    1. Hi Patricia
I would first try a new charger before anything else.

  23. I dropped my iPad mini and now I have the left side of my screen is black but everything works fine even thru the black screen I can still touch thru it I just have to guess where things are how can I fix this

    1. Hello Kerrie and thanks for your question.

If the iPad is not displaying on half of the display it sounds like the LCD is damaged. An LCD replacement should resolve this issue and it's a fairly common repair.

Thanks and I hope this helps,
      Matthew Jones.

  24. Hi guys,
I dropped my iPad air and cracked the screen. It worked fine for a few days but now can't connect to the internet. We live in high humidity - could it be a moisture problem? Any point in having the screen repaired?
    Thanks!
    Laura

    1. Hello Laura

Sorry to hear about the network issues with the iPad air. Given that the screen cracked and high humidity can create such an issue. Take into consideration that with an iPad that is a sealed unit, so any crack on the device's screen can let in water of many styles. something as hand sweat can cause this internal issue. Now you mention that repair on the device causing this as well, this can be a common problem when repairing an iPad air. the wifi flex can be easily torn given it is directly at the bottom of the iPad just right underneath the glass and double sided tape. I hope this helps.

      Best wishes
      Robin B.

      1. Thanks, Robin. Is this something you think your team can repair? Can I get an estimate? It is a cellular model with large storage so it was expensive. Should I repair or replace?

  25. Hi, I have replaced my iPad mini screen, before stickin all back down I checked to see if everything was ok and working. All was good, rotation and swiping to open. But as soon as I press it all down, it doesn't swipe etc. Can you help

    1. Hello Mr. Broderick

Sorry to hear about that iPad mini. From the issue you are describing it sounds only when you press the glass down into place, thus the screen no longer swipes. I am familiar with this issue, it is caused by a bend in the digitizer flex cable. when the bend is present that will stop touch input. If you pull the device apart and the bend is straightened out then the swipes will work. Thing is once a bend is in that cable it really never unbends correctly. The trick is to make a "S" end with the cable when installing, or else this issue will continue to persist even with new digitizers. I hope this helps

      Best wishes
      Robin B.

      1. okay I had this same problem, I've been thru 2 digitizers since i tried to replace broken LCD and digitizer.
Kapton tape over every possible contact point each time. 1st screen I had it tested before doing adhesive and it worked fine. then, i see i have to long press power button to get screen to come on becasue the home button isnt responding, the sleep/wake function is not working with the power button but cancelling when asked to "slide to power off" it goes back to home screen . so I disassembled to redo repair from scratch again. Thats when i saw the crimp in the digitizer cable. well then i replaced with another digitizer ic chip flex cable etc..I ended up losing a few of those minuscule screws and tried using similiar ones that were a tad bit larger, I have no idea which screws go where now. Also the second digitizer also tested fine while still upright then i bent the flex cable towards the LCD this time so it wouldnt crimp in thed frame again. Then it did the same responses as last time PLUS it keeps enlarging the screen in zoom and I opened it again to disassemble and ended up tearing the digitizer cable when i opened like a book and the screen had nothing to rest on and it snapped off. At this point im extremely frustrated ive replaced many mobile devices from soldering ports IC chips reflow, and several screen repairs on apple and other devices and I nhave never had such a hard time with something as this Ipad Mini 2....Please Help

        1. Hello Lisa and thank you for your comment.

I want to first start of by saying your pain is not felt alone. That is to say, I've seen so many crazy iPad mini's that I would say 10% of repairing an iPad mini is faith based. The digitizer in particular because of how it connects to the board causes a large number of headaches. The cables can easily become damaged when bending and "flexing" them, even though they are designed to flex... The connectors on the board, or "FPC", for this device is also easily damaged and if it is damaged, it can be a real headache to replace it. A lot of jobs end up at the solder station before either being rules successful or failures.

I hate to say "Keep throwing parts at it" but, you might try another digitizer to see if the few you've used so far have just been less than acceptable quality.

The issues you are describing are most definitely in the digitizer/flex cables as you stated the digitizer works properly while vertical but only when it's flattened and the cables are flexed does the ghost touching occur.

I hope my comments have been helpful.

          Thank you,
          Matthew Jones.

  26. Hi. My ipad mini is flickering slightly. It is fully functional but it has become noticeable, it flickers, sometimes it doesnt. And when it flickers, there is a blackline below the display and below that line shows the topmost part of the display. What couldve been the reason and How can i fix this? Thank you so much :)

    1. Hello Avis

Sorry to hear about the iPad mini screen flickering. From the issue are describing it sounds like the device's back-light coil is having trouble, I would recommend that you set the auto lock on the device to never, turn off auto brightness and set the brightness to low and let the device sit like that for about an hour. If this flicker gets any better please repeat until the flickering is no more.

      Hope it helps
      Robin B.

  27. My iPad 2 has had all updates. Recently, the screen turns cloud blue and knocks my work off. I can go back, but it happens again and again. HELP! Very frustrating!

    1. Hello Elizabeth,

Sorry to hear about that iPad 2. From the issue you are describing it sounds like your LCD on the iPad is going out. With that being said i would strongly recommend either replacing the LCD screen in the device, or I would consider backing up the iPad's information and taking the device to apple for an out of warranty replacement.

      Thank you
      Robin B.

  28. I replaced the battery on my ipad. Mini 2nd generation, the only.problem I was having with it was it was taking to long to charge, and when it did the charge would last about an hour. after replacing the battery and resembling it. I notice a few things were not working. I can get it to swipe ,and the camera will open thats it.. I can't open any other apps, the home button don't work and I can't even get it to power off. Can u help thx

    1. Hello Nickie,

We are sorry to hear about that iPad mini 2 issue you are having. From the above issue you are describing it sounds to be that your iPad may have sustained internal damage during the repair. That being said I recommend that you reset the iPad in iTunes to remedy this issue. If after resetting the device these issues persist it is likely that board damage is your culprit and taking the device to apple would be my next step, for an out of warranty replacement.

      Best of luck
      Robin B.

  29. Hey I just tried replacing my lcd and digitizer on my ipad mini 1 and the apple logo comes on then off. Then it wont allow the touch to work either.

    1. Hello Ronnie and thank you for your comment.

From the issue you are describing, where the device will display the Apple logo and then stop displaying, it sounds like the device is failing to boot up. However, you describe having issues with the touch screen on the device so is the device able to start up and get to the "Home Screen"?

If the device blanks out while starting up but, starts displaying later, there could be an issue with the LCD or possibly even the LCD Connector. (The connector is much more commonly seen.)

Since it is having issues with registering finger presses, it is clearly still having issues with the Digitizer. Again, this could be an actual issue with the Digitizer or merely a connector issue. If you're not very familiar with iPad mini repair, I would encourage you to take it to a service provider nearby and have them take a look at it. They may ultimately diagnose the device as having a motherboard issue and that might be above their scope of capabilities. If that is the case, I would recommend you visit an Apple Store to seek an Out-of-warranty replacement on your device.

It may also be beneficial to look into the iPad mini 2. It's a slight upgrade to the iPad mini and the real selling point is that Apple has lowered the price now down to $269. (As of March 2016)

I hope my comments have been helpful.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  30. I just replaced my lcd in my ipad mini 2 and now it doesn't seem to take a charge, if there are any screws missing with that be the reason?

    1. Hello Steven and thank you for your comment.

If you are encountering issues with charging your iPad after having replaced the LCD then there could be something going on with the charge port flex for that iPad. It's unlikely that it's a connector based issue as if memory serves me correctly, the iPad mini 2 charge port is soldered to the board. I want to clarify that we are talking about the LCD panel and not the Front Glass/Digitizer for this device. (The iPad mini does not feature a "fused glass" display meaning that the front glass/digitizer can be separated. If you simply had a broken front glass, you would have replaced the Digitizer. If the screen below the front glass, which actually displays the images, is the one which was replaced then there could be more complicated issues at work here.

If you are for sure missing screws then that can contribute to cables being loose and would be the first culprit for attempting a repair.

I hope my comments have proven to be helpful.

      Thank you,
      Matthew Jones.

  31. I replaced the lcd and digitizer on iPad mini 2 retina. After repair it refuses to stay on turns on for a few seconds sometimes a few minutes but then shuts off again. I was repairing for someone and they are getting angrier and angrier please help me!!! Thank u

    1. Hello Georgette,

We are sorry to hear about that iPad Mini 2 issue you are having. From the above issue you are describing it sounds to be that either you have a bad battery connection or one of your resistors is going out. It is common to see the resistors blown if the iPad was either still on or turned on during repair, with the screen off. All it takes it to have connected but the LCD disconnected and the iPad will have issues as your describing. To remedy this issue i recommend taking the device to apple to get it replaced out of warranty to get it back up 100%

      Best of luck
      Robin B.

  32. Hello,

My iPad mini is stalling a bit, especially when I swipe to the next page on my home screen. It just lags when I swipe ( I have several pages:-) by a few seconds. I can still use it but concerned something might be failing. Thank you!

    1. Hello Michelle,

Thanks for your question. It sounds to be that you a quiet a few apps installed. This likely is the culprit of your of your lag. Try removing any unused apps, also any stored music or pictures can affect this as well and remove any older, music and pictures. If you still notice the touch lag, I recommend resetting the device in iTunes, and do not restore a back up set it up as new. This should help clear up any lag.

      Hope it helps
      Robin B.

  33. Hi Robin,

Yes I do have a lot of apps :-) I will try your suggestion. Thank you!

    1. No problem glad to help

      Robin B.

  34. Why is my iPad mini's Slide to Unlock Screen being displayed off center...? This is a White 32 GB Wi-Fi Only iPad mini.

  35. Hi

  36. I left my ipad mini out on the porch for a weekend. It got very cold that weekend, but there was no rain. Now, the ipad starts and goes through the sign-in, but then, anywhere between 10 and 60 seconds later, it restarts on its own. I can't do anything because it turns off and on over and over, without enough time to finish any actions.

  37. hi there. i replace my son’s ipad mini screen digitizer. after putting it back the ipad mini wont turn on. i didnt uplug the battery when i unplugged the LCD. LCd works fine when i started to fix the ipad. thanks hope you can help me. if theres any hardware i could change.

  38. Hi

I have just replaced a cracked IPad mini glass screen. Now my screen has a line down the left side of the screen, about a third in where it's all black. So I can only see 2/3 of the screen now. Everything else seems ok. What would you suggest?

    Many thanks

  39. My iPad mini screen keep on flickering and jumping..what should I do?pls help..

  40. Hello,
I am using an I pad mini. About 1/4 of the I pads screen is displaying and functioning absolutely fine, but he 3/4 th of the screen is filled with small grey lines. I am able to view the text under these lines and even the touchscreen is working fine.

  41. I have an Ipad Mini. The battery died a while ago......needs to be replaced. But....with Apple's new trade-in plan, I can get a replacement for $105. Problem.......I have to remove the memory chip before I trade it in. All my information is still there. All my logins for example.
    Gary Stanullwich

  42. Replaced lcd and digitizer only apply logo comes on then shuts off. May have damaged screen connector on the device

  43. I have an iPad mini (A1432). The touch screen only works on the top half. So if I want to doing anything that requires touch, I have to rotate the screen until what I want is at the top of the iPad. When I first turn it on the screen is very faded. As time goes on, it becomes darker. It has been like this for years, but I am tired of always rotating it to use it. Do you think I may just need to re-seat the digitizer connection? This all started after my son dropped it.
